Ruddock seeks sedition advice on Islamic books

Federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock says he has asked for further advice
on whether controversial books found in Muslim bookshops in Sydney breach
the law.

Mr Ruddock says the books portray suicide bombing as an act of martyrdom.

The Australian Federal Police have found the books do not breach the law.

Mr Ruddock says he has now asked the Director of Public Prosecutions to look
at whether the books are an offence, or if the sedition laws are deficient.

"If the law does not deal with a situation where people are being invited to
consider suicide bombing and to see that as an act of martyrdom, rather than
morally repugnant, I suspect that most members of the Australian community
would say that is something we need to deal with," Mr Ruddock said.
