Sa'adat, who was seized during an IDF raid on a Palestinian jail last, was charged with a series of crimes, including belonging to an outlawed group, overseeing the PFLP's military operations, incitement and arms dealing. He was nabbed along with five other Palestinians in a brazen 10-hour raid on the Jericho prison on March 14. The operation was launched after the new Hamas-led Palestinian government said it would release the men. The PFLP has claimed responsibility for assassinating former tourism minister Rehavam Ze'evi in 2001. Four other prisoners captured with Sa'adat are being tried for the killing, but Attorney-General Menahem Mazus has ruled recently that there was not enough evidence to indict Sa'adat in the killing. Sa'adat spent more than three years in the Jericho prison based on the Israeli claim that he had masterminded the assassination. Sa'adat was named leader of the military group days before Ze'evi was gunned down in a Jerusalem hotel. Sa'adat and the other suspects were supervised in the Jericho prison by American and British wardens under the terms of an unusual 2002 arrangement. Israel stormed the prison just after the wardens left. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
