Polish PM reaffirms role in Iraq, Afghanistan

 <http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/poland.html> Poland's new Prime
Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski has reaffirmed his nation's commitment to
fighting the wars in <http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/iraq.html>
Iraq and <http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/afghanistan.html>
Afghanistan, the Washington Post reported on Thursday.
Kaczynski, who met with top Bush administration officials, said that his
nation was planning to send a combat infantry battalion and special troops
to Afghanistan soon, adding that the Taliban, which has recently made
aggressive strides, must be kept from rising again.
There are about 900 Polish troops leading a multinational division south of
Baghdad and another 100 in Afghanistan.
Kaczynski took over as prime minister in July and is serving alongside his
twin brother, Lech Kaczynski, who is Poland's president.
The Prime Minister met with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on
Monday and was to meet with other U.S. officials to talk about energy
security and anti-terrorism action, as well as military affairs, the
Washington Post said.
On bilateral cooperation, Kaczynski said he was open to negotiations about
locating parts of the U.S. missile defense system in Poland over the next
few years, part of a long-term plan to defend both the

from long-range missile attacks.
The U.S. has been speaking with Poland and the

placing long-range interceptors -- the missiles which are launched to
destroy enemy warheads -- in Europe to provide added security in case of a
long-range attack.
