BREAKING NEWS | ISB Files Orders to Shield Documents

Islamic Society Asks Court to Shield Evidence of Land Transfer, Foreign
Funding and Trustees From Public View; Asks Court for Order Keeping Evidence
'Attorneys' Eyes Only'

The Islamic Society of Boston filed an emergency request this week for an
order that would shield from public view all confidential documents obtained
from any witnesses in their defamation suit, according to ISB spokeswoman
Jane Lane.
The ISB and two of its trustees, Dr. Yousef Abou-Allaban and Dr. Osama
Kandil, submitted the emergency motion for entry of a protective order in
Boston's Suffolk Superior Court on Monday, as their lawsuit against several
Boston-area institutions, including WFXT-TV (Fox 25), the pro-Israel
advocacy group The David Project, the Boston Herald and several other
advocacy factions, continues to rage on.
If granted, the order sought by the ISB will make all private documents
obtained from any witnesses limited to attorneys' eyes only. They will not
be shared with those being sued. Jeff Robbins, The David Project's lawyer,
said this legal maneuver comes after he subpoenaed Steffian Bradley
Architects in Boston, the designer of the ISB's substantial mosque and
cultural center in Roxbury, on Aug. 25.
This court case shakeup also follows the ISB issuing subpoenas to two
members of the media last week, according to Lane. Christian Broadcasting
Network in Virginia Beach, VA, was served papers after a series of talks on
the Pat Robertson show about the ISB's lawsuit, Lane said. Waltham-based
writer for The New Republic in Washington, D.C., Tamar Morad, was also
subpoenaed due to conversations she may have recently had with defendants in
the case, Lane added. "This is all what we call part of the discovery
process," she said. "It's for evidence gathering, so we have the
information to connect the dots in this case."
The David Project served 13 additional third-party subpoenas in late August
to several organizations such as the ISB's financiers Bank of America, the
Muslim-American Society and the BRA's Deputy Director Muhammad Ali-Salaam.
