Man Pleads Guilty To Bomb-Making Charge
Associated Press
HOUSTON - A Pennsylvania man accused of trying to build and sell a bomb to
an al-Qaida affiliate pleaded guilty Thursday to federal charges.
Ronald Allen Grecula, 70, of Bangor, Pa., pleaded guilty to attempting to
provide support to a terrorist organization as part of an agreement with
federal prosecutors. Grecula, who faces a sentence of five years in prison
without parole, is to be sentenced Dec. 15.
Grecula has been in custody since his arrest at a Houston hotel on May 20,
2005.
Prosecutors contended Grecula was angry with the government over losing
custody of his children in 2002, when they were 10 and 3.
An indictment alleges he met a federal confidential source in Pike County,
Pa., and discussed getting custody from his estranged wife, of Houston, by
either having her killed or setting her up to be arrested for drug
possession.
Grecula also was accused of telling the source he would build bombs for such
anti-American groups as al-Qaida in exchange for those organizations helping
him regain custody of his children.
The government recorded several telephone conversations between Grecula and
the confidential source.
