Finance Minister Jim Flaherty introduced amendments to the Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act yesterday that would put new reporting rules on banks, lawyers, wire transfer services and other financial institutions. It will also bring in new penalties for those who don't comply with the law. The proposed amendments come a day after Canada's financial intelligence agency, the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre, revealed that it flagged more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions last year.
