http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/news/politics/15688352.htm Happenings in the 2006 campaign Associated Press In a bruising contest in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, Republican Alan Fine stepped up a line of attack on Democrat Keith Ellison Thursday with a brochure linking Ellison to a group Fine alleges has terrorist ties. The flier goes after Ellison's support from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington-based group whose leaders have given Ellison money and fundraising help. It describes CAIR as "a group that Democrats say has deep ties to terrorism," quoting two Democratic senators from a 2003 hearing on terrorism. "Keith Ellison. Risky. Not for us," the brochure says. CAIR has denied suggestions by some conservatives that it has ties to Middle Eastern groups linked to terrorist acts. Ellison's campaign manager didn't immediately return phone messages. Ellison would become the first Muslim in Congress if he wins in the heavily Democratic district covering Minneapolis and a dozen suburbs.
