7 Balkan states to fight crime and terror

Oct. 16, 2006 at 1:09PM

Seven Balkan countries agreed in Serbia Monday to jointly fight organized
crime and terrorism along with the European Union and NATO.
Meeting at Serbia's northwestern hunting lodge at Karadjordjevo, the
presidents of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro,
Romania and Serbia signed a declaration on improving abilities and
cooperation between their judiciary, police and intelligence services, the
Serbian news agency Beta reported.
Bulgaria attended the summit as a guest, but was not a signatory, the
report said.
The Balkan states pledged to install and develop relations with NATO
and the European Union's bodies in charge of confronting organized crime and
terrorism.
The heads of state agreed to maintain permanent contacts relating to
these issues and to organize annual meetings of ministers of interior or
justice.
