Tolerance is not a virtue

Dan Sernoffsky

A couple of weeks ago, an incident at a Minneapolis airport drew
considerable attention. It seems that six imams were removed from a U.S.
Airways flight bound for Phoenix.

When the news was first reported, there were the immediate outcries about
discrimination and racial profiling and all the other popular politically
correct buzz words aimed at castigating the intolerance of some Americans.

But when some of the details concerning the removal began to surface, the
story began to lose some traction. The imams, it seems, were behaving
suspiciously. Among other things, once they boarded the plane, they didn't
go to their assigned seats. Instead, they spread themselves throughout the
plane in a manner in which they would be in a position to cover all
potential exits. They asked for seatbelt extensions they did not need. Three
had one-way tickets and no checked baggage.

Still, although the immediate furor died down quickly, that didn't stop the
imams and their sympatizers from staging a "pray-in" in Washington, nor from
seeking out their sympatizers in Congress in an effort to promote
legislation aimed at ending, once and for all, any attempts to stop other
Muslims who might be deemed a threat to a flight any time in the future.

Somehow, it wasn't surprising to learn that the six imams had been among
those attending a conference for Keith Ellison, a newly elected
representative from Minnesota who will shortly become the first Muslim
member of Congress.
Nor is it surprising to learn that Ellison, a Democrat, has announced his
stated intention of taking his ceremonial oath of office with the Koran
rather than the Bible.

Interestingly, when the news of Ellison's decision was made public, a
nationally-known conservative columnist and talk show host named Dennis
Prager raised an objection. Which has since resulted in further outcries of
racism and intolerance.

In addition to his writing and his rad io show, Prager, who is Jewish, also
serves as a member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. When he made his
views about Ellison public, CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations,
immediately issued its latest version of an Islamofascist fatwah. CAIR has
demanded that Prager be removed from the Holocaust Council because of his
"bigoted, intolerant and divisive views."

Were it not so tragic, it would almost be laughable to watch organizations
like CAIR lecture Americans on tolerance, and to watch their useful idiots
on the American left applaud those lectures, especially in light of what
CAIR represents. Until and unless CAIR and other Muslim groups can stand up
and universally condemn, and take action against, the Islamofascism bent on
world domination, they cannot be considered anything more than a better
dressed arm of al-Qaida.

Consider, after all, what happened in the Israeli city of Acco last week.
Islamic marauders broke into a Talmud Torah - a Hebre w school - and
vandalized it, painting Arabic graffiti proclaiming "Hamas" and "Allah
Akbar" and swastikas on the wall, destroying books and furniture, and
stealing equipment.

And consider the "letter" sent to the "people" of the United States by
Iran's Mahmoud Ahmedinejad suggesting, among other things, that the U.S.
abandon Israel. Of course, Ahmedinejad has regularly denied the Holocaust
and called for the eradication of Israel while appearing bent on using him
soon-to-be-developed nuclear weapons on Israel.

It was less than a century ago, and still within the memory of many who are
still alive, that a similar movement was growing in Europe, a movement bent
on world domination. Political correctness wasn't in vogue then, but there
was a willingness to follow those precepts, to tolerate what seemed only to
be an effort to create an orderly society, an effort that was long on
promises of peace. Those promises led to a negotiations by an honorable man
who thought he was dealing with another honorable man.

That Neville Chamberlain was an honorable man is a fact that now seems lost
to history, and his reputation has been forever tainted by his efforts at
appeasement. Those efforts with a less-than-honorable man, Adolph Hitler,
turned out to be meaningless, and the world was eventually plunged into an
horrific war that gave rise to the very word Holocaust.

There are honorable men still, but the politically correct, the
Islamofascist front groups operating in the United States and the American
left shun them in their efforts to bestow upon the modern day Hitlers - the
Ahmedinejads and the Bashar Assads - the mantle of distinguished leader. In
reality, they are simply the latest incarnation of Hitler, and it may be
only after another horrific war that the reality will finally be recognized.
Unless there is a willingness to reject the Islamofascist demands for
"tolerance," the reality of that war may be closer than anyone anticipate s.
