Another missing man released in NWFP PESHAWAR: The intelligence agencies have released another man, raising the number to eight of those released after being picked up from various parts of NWFP for their alleged links with Al Qaeda and other terrorist organisations. The intelligence agencies had allegedly arrested Ali Sher, a motor mechanic from Mardan, on May 3, 2005. Sher said he was released a few days ago after being kept for about 18 months in Rawalpindi. He said that he was not tortured in detention."They (intelligence officials) provided me with nice food and newspapers during detention," Sher said, adding that they even returned Rs 3,000 he had at the time of his arrest. After the arrest of Al Qaeda operative Abul Faraj Al-Libi, newspaper reports quoted intelligence sources as saying that Sher was an Al Qaeda operative and used to recruit people for the organisation. The seven other people released recently by the agencies claimed they were severely tortured and all of them were released after two years. They are Fazl Karim and Qari Mohammad Ishfaq from Dera Ismail Khan, Umer Rehman and Bin Yameen from Swat, Saeedur Rehman from Malakand Agency, Yaqoob Shah from Kohat and Maulana Hadayatullah from Hazara. staff report [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
