Defense contractor replacing striking workers

TUCSON, Ariz. The war goes on and Raytheon needs workers on the assembly
line to keep turning out bombs and missiles at its Tucson plant.
The company has started replacing striking factory workers.

Later on, the company says it'll decide whether new workers will cost
strikers their jobs.

A union spokesman calls the hires "an insult to existing employees."

In the two months since union workers rejected a new labor contract, the
company says production has risen above pre-strike levels and some
projects are ahead of schedule.

But the company says it can't keep using its engineers as factory
workers forever.

The company says new hires is a way to "move on" from the 62-day stalemate.
