Sudanese president addresses Nation of Islam members in Detroit DETROIT Sudan's president told attendees at the Nation of Islam convention that the U-S is exaggerating troubles in the Darfur region so it can control the country. President Omar al-Bashir was invited to speak via satellite today at the first day of the convention at Detroit's Cobo Center. He says he won't allow United Nations peacekeepers into his country. He suggested that Sudan could accept more African Union peacekeepers -- with U-N support. More than 200-thousand people have been killed and two-point-five (m) million chased from their homes in Darfur since 2003. That's when rebels from ethnic African tribes rose up against the government. Al-Bashir said media reports of 400-thousand casualties are false. He also denied reports of ethnic cleansing.
