<http://www.nypost.com> New York Post HOOKERS, LIES & U.N. By KATI CORNELL May 24, 2007 -- In a blow to the feds' bribery case against a U.N. official, the star witness admitted lying to prosecutors in order to keep his wife from learning he'd cheated with hookers. Nishan Kohli, 30, a crooked businessman, said he wasn't sure what he dreaded most - his wife's wrath or the possibility of time behind bars because he fibbed to the feds. "What's worse: going to prison or facing your wife?" asked attorney Jeffrey Brown, who represents former U.N. procurement chief Sanjaya Bahel. "I'm debating that," said Kohli, 30. An admitted shady dealer, Kohli previously testified that he gave Bahel a deal on a luxury apartment, cash and gifts in exchange for help landing $100 million in U.N. contracts, and paid off other officials with visits to strip clubs and romps with hookers. When prosecutors asked him about his own activities with hookers when he accompanied the officials, he claimed he'd slept with prostitutes three times before his marriage. He came clean on two more recent trysts on the eve of trial. Kohli pleaded guilty to bribery charges in December, agreeing to testify and to be truthful about all of his criminal activities in return for a reduced sentence. Since Kohli lied to his wife and feds, Brown asked, would he also lie to "perfect strangers" on a jury. "It's possible, yes," the witness said. <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [EMAIL PROTECTED] . <http://geo.yahoo.com/serv?s=97359714/grpId=11648958/grpspId=1705447214/msgI d=33581/stime=1180054132/nc1=3848627/nc2=3848642/nc3=3848539> [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
