police officer killed, three others injured in blast in Kirkuk

IRBIL, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- An Iraqi police officer was killed and three others
were injured in a blast that ripped through Iraq's northern part, whereas
local police arrested 69 suspects during storming operations that took place
in Kirkuk and Mosul, police said on Thursday.

An explosive device was remotely detonated when a police patrol was passing
through, which resulted in casualties, an Iraqi police source told KUNA.

Meanwhile, a joint police and army force conducted a storming operation on
villages southwestern Kirkuk, arresting 17 suspects, while in southern Mosul
another operation resulted in detaining 52 suspects, the source added.

Huge caches of arms and ammunition were confiscated during the operations.

Earlier today, it was announced that three Iraqis, including a soldier, were
killed in different incidents in the northern city of Kirkuk Wednesday
night, at a time when Iranian shelling of areas close to its borders with
Irbil resumed. (end) sbr.
