DUBAI: Al-Qaeda warned on Monday that last week's shooting on the Israeli embassy in Mauritania was only the start of its operations in North Africa and called for more attacks on Jews and Christians. An Internet statement posted in the name of the militant network's North African branch said its fighters carried out Friday's shooting, in which there were no casualties among embassy staff but three French bystanders were wounded. "This is just the beginning," said the statement, posted on a Web site used by Islamic militant groups. "Don't rejoice too much at your survival this time," it warned Israeli Ambassador Boaz Bismuth. "There are other arrows in the quiver." The statement, whose authenticity could not be verified, urged supporters to "target the interests of the Jews and Christians and their communities in the Islamic Maghreb.
