Gunmen Open Fire On Partygoers In Mexico, Kill 17 Last Updated: 2010-07-19T16:47:11+05:30 Gunmen stormed into a birthday party in northern Mexico yesterday and opened fire on the guests killing 17 and injuring 18, reports said. The event was taking place at a ranch in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila. However, the exact motive of the attack is not revealed yet, spokesman of the attorney general's office said. The attack may be staged by gunmen working for organised crime groups, the spokesman said. The wounded partygoers have been transported to different hospitals for treatment, an official said. Coahuila is still a war prone region that has been affected by the war between Los Zetas, a band of Mexican special forces deserters turned hired guns, and the Gulf cartel. After several years as the armed wing of the Gulf cartel, Los Zetas went into the drug business on their own account and now control several lucrative territories. ------------------------------------ -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
