Both pro and con, much ink has been spilled over the question if a mosque
should be built on Ground Zero.

Tentatively slated to be named the Cordoba Mosque, it could be the largest
mosque in the United States, which begs the question - why do the forces of
Islam want such a massive structure in a location that many regard as
America's 21st century equivalent of Pearl Harbor?

The Target Much Older Than New York

On June 6, 2003, moslem cleric Abdel-Samie Mahmoud Ibrahim Moussa stated
the following in a rather fiery khutba (sermon);

"O Allah, grant victory to the Islamic fighters in Palestine, Chechnya, and
elsewhere in the world! O Allah, destroy the homes of the enemies of Islam!
O Allah, help us to annihilate the enemies of Islam! O Allah, make firm
everywhere the voice of the nation of Islam!"

So from where was this message of love sent from? Mecca, Riyadh, Tehran?

No... it was from the al-Huda Mosque, which also happens to be the largest
mosque outside of the moslem world. It's also two and a half miles from the
grandest church in all of Christendom, St. Peter's Basilica.

Financed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, such a massive structure literally
in the shadow of the Vatican seems a curious choice. Especially in light of
the fact that the moslem population of Italy is a mere 1.4% of the total
population.

Rather small in comparison to some other moslem populations in various
European nations:

* 3% of the population of Great Britain is moslem.

* 3.6% of the population of Germany is moslem.

* 5% of the population of Denmark is moslem.

* 8-10% of the population of France is moslem.

So why Rome?

It was the Catholic armies of Charles Martel that defeated the moslems at
Tours. It was Pope Urban II whose cry of "Deus Vult!" (God wills it) that
sent Catholic armies to liberate the Holy Land during the Holy Crusades. It
was the Catholic fleet under Don Juan of Austria who defeated the moslems at
Lepanto. It was the combined Catholic armies under King Jan Sobieski of
Poland who stopped the moslems cold at the gates of Vienna.

Many consider the construction of the massive al-Huda Mosque to be a none
too subtle message to all of Christendom.

Just as many consider the construction of the Cordoba Mosque to be a none
too subtle message to all of Western Civilization.

Unfortunantly, there was a time when Christendom and Western Civilization
were synonymous. And in those days... we won.
