the Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv on Tuesday and demanded political asylum, an
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman said. The intruder, who tried to take a
consular official hostage, was shot by Turkish guards, lightly wounded in
the leg, and was questioned by Turkish officials. The man was later
identified as Nadim Injaz, of Ramallah, The Associated Press reported. He
was removed from the embassy and turned over to Israeli authorities, The
A.P. said. The Israeli spokesman added that the man had tried to break into
the British Embassy in Tel Aviv four years ago, ended up in prison and was
then released.
