ORTIZ, The Brownsville Herald

Two bodies with "numerous" gunshot wounds were discovered Thursday night
along FM 511, according to Brownsville police.

Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies found the bodies after spotting
a vehicle near the U.S. Border Patrol station east of Old Alice Road in
Olmito.

Deputies first suspected they had stumbled upon a traffic accident. Instead,
they found a light gray Dodge Ram pickup with numerous bullet holes.

Inside, authorities found the bodies of two Hispanic men, apparently in
their 20s, who had been shot "numerous times," Brownsville Police spokesman
Eddie Garcia said.

Garcia confirmed that at about 8 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the
scene to assist in the double homicide investigation.

The headlights of the truck were on when investigators arrived.

Justice of the Peace Linda Salazar arrived at about 9:30 p.m. and pronouced
the men dead.

Police had not immediately identified the victims, Garcia said, adding that
investigators had waited for Salazar's pronouncement before further
investigating the crime scene.

Brownsville police secured the scene and closed eastbound lanes of traffic
on FM 511 between the Cameron County Sheriff's Department station and
Paredes Line Road in order to conduct the investigation.

There were no witnesses "at this time," Garcia said.
