Abdelghani Meskini, 42, also lied about his criminal activity to the FBI, Manhattan federal judge John Keenan found. But Keenan also found that Meskini -- who cavorted with hookers and drug dealers at two Atlanta apartment complexes he managed while on supervised release -- wasn't in violation for those activities, because authorities knew about it and had greenlighted his job. ``Incredibly, the United States Probation Department approved Meskini's employment,'' Keenan wrote in his opinion. One complex in particular, the judge said, was "a hotbed of criminal activity where narcotics sales and prostitution occurred openly and persistently.'' He called the feds' attempt to go after Meskini for his shady workplace associations ``disingenuous at best.'' The government had sought to send Meskini back to the slammer for nine violations. Keenan found him guilty of just five. AFter a two-day hearing that began Oct. 13, Keenan said he believed testimony from Chrystal Roughton, a prostitute whom Meskini had befriended. She said she'd seen a handgun in Meskini's truck, and said the two had exchanged emails, containing firearms photos, when he asked for help in buying an AK-47. Another witness, who testified he'd committed credit card fraud with Meskini, also said he'd seen the handgun. Meskini, an Algerian who in 2001 pleaded guilty to to charges stemming from the foiled airport terror attack, was sentenced to six years in a federal lockup and was put on supervised release in 2005. Prosecutors had asked Keenan to sentence Meskini to serve more time in prison because of the alleged violations. Keenan will decide at a hearing today whether he Meskini will get more prison time Read more: <http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/terrorist_purchase_failed_lax_attack_ iMn76P4d6p74ZqT6UwrtDN#ixzz13lKs9Hpf> http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/terrorist_purchase_failed_lax_attack_i Mn76P4d6p74ZqT6UwrtDN#ixzz13lKs9Hpf [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
