Taliban running out of bullets, bombs in Afghanistan
2010-11-16 16:43:00
London, Nov 16 (IANS) Taliban guerrillas in Afghanistan are facing an acute
shortage of bullets and bombs, a media report said Tuesday.
The Taliban fighters were running out of 7.62mm rounds for their AK-47
machineguns, The Sun reported.
Also, the cost of raw material to prepare improvised explosive devices (IED)
has seen a tenfold increase in the past six months.
Military commanders point out that the acute shortage was due to snapping of
supply lines from the Pakistan border.
There are about 10,000 British troops battling the Taliban in Afghanistan.
'Intelligence reports and experience on the front line point to an acute
shortage of ammunition available to insurgents,' a senior military
intelligence official was quoted as saying.
'This has forced them to avoid engaging in attacks unless they have to. It
is early days but signs are very encouraging,' he added.
