The Union City building owned by the controversial Ground Zero imam has been placed into temporary custodial receivership by Hudson County Judge Thomas Olivieri, who cited a lack of improvements as the reason for his decision. According to Tuesday's decision, the custodial receiver, Raymond Bulin, will be in charge of using the October rent money to eliminate bedbugs from four apartments, cap sewer lines in the basement and improve the fire escape ladder. The building, located at 2206 Central Ave., is owned by Feisal Abdul Rauf, who was sued by the city in late September for failing to address multiple health and fire code violations, from moldy bathrooms to a non-working fire alarm system. "We are satisfied that the court feels the building should be put into receivership," said Union City spokesman Mark Albiez. "We will pursue matters like this with rent receivership in the future if we have to." Rauf's attorney, Tomas Espinosa, was not available for comment. The city's final inspection was on Oct. 21 and revealed that violations remained, such as the faulty fire ladder and a bedbug infestation.
