Rise between Italy, France over Immigrants

The European Commissioner for home affairs, Cecilia Malmstrom, said that
more than 15,000 Tunisian immigrants on the Italian island of Lampedusa will
be repatriated, reported the official press agency, TAP, on Thursday.

She said that Tunisia and Italy are thinking of ways to set up a "mobility
partnership" which will favor a legal immigration of Tunisians to Europe
based on criteria of competencies and qualifications.

Evoking the situation of hundreds of Somali and Eritrean refugees in Ras El
Jedir at the Tunisian-Libyan border, Malmstrom indicated that the EU is
still helping evacuate tens of thousands of refugees to their home
countries, adding that it is considering granting political asylum to some
of those refugees.

In a related event, Tunisia's navy has managed to save two people on a total
of 30 illegal immigrants who tried to leave the country heading for the
Italian island of Lampedusa on Wednesday.

Later on Thursday, TAP reported that a Tunisian navy unit found 27 bodies
off the Kerkennah islands, where their boat is said to have capsized in poor
weather.

On Wednesday, Tunisia's navy also saved more than 300 African migrants, who
were fleeing Libya, after their boat was taking water, TAP reported.

The migrants who came from Bangladesh, Somalia and Sudan, were taken in
charge by the Tunisian navy units and sent to the Choucha refugee camp, near
Ras El Jedir from where they will be evacuated to their home countries.
