War In Afghanistan News 10 April 2011

pup> AfghanProvinceRegionEight bad guys feed the worms tonight, for making
the error of shooting at the good guys.

ISAF confirmed that an Haqqani commander was among 6 of the cowardly who
surrendered without a fight Thursday in Paktika.

Multiple munitions were captured recently, adding to the huge numbers
previously reported.

 

Several insurgents were killed by International Security Assistance Forces
during separate clearing operations in Helmand province, Saturday.
 
An ISAF patrol spotted two armed insurgents displaying hostile intent
against coalition forces in Sangin district. After gaining positive
identification, coalition forces engaged with small-arms fire, killing the
insurgents.
 
In Musa Qal'ah district, an ISAF patrol was engaged with small-arms fire by
several insurgents. After establishing positive identification, coalition
forces returned fire killing one insurgent and forcing the others to flee.
Coalition forces broke contact with insurgents due to the presence of Afghan
civilians in vicinity of the enemy firing position.
 
In other ISAF news throughout Afghanistan: 

Kabul:

A suicide bomber has attacked an Afghan army bus in the country's capital,
wounding seven soldiers and three civilians.

Authorities say the blast occurred in eastern Kabul Saturday, shortly after
the attacker approached the bus on foot and detonated the explosives
believed to be strapped to his body.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it comes less than a
week after a multiple suicide bombing targeted a foreign military base in
Kabul. The Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack.
 
North
 
In Darzab district, Jowzjan province, Afghan National Security Forces and
ISAF repelled an insurgent attack during a clearing operation, Friday.
Coalition forces called for air support when an Afghan patrol was engaged by
several insurgents. After gaining positive identification, the air weapons
team supporting ground forces engaged the enemy position, killing two
insurgents and forcing the others to flee.
 
South
 
In Helmand province, an ISAF patrol observed insurgents emplacing an
improvised explosive device in Musa Qal'ah district, Saturday. Coalition
forces established positive identification of the enemy position and
engaged, killing one insurgent.   
 
In Arghandab district, Kandahar province, a combined patrol discovered a
weapons cache Saturday, consisting of 600 7.62 mm rounds and nine
rocket-propelled grenades.       
 
The weapons were confiscated and have been or will be destroyed by the
security forces.
 
East
 
Afghan and coalition forces confirmed the capture of a Haqqani network
facilitator during a security operation in Sayyid Karam district, Paktiya
province Thursday.

The Haqqani facilitator was in the final stages of executing a suicide
attack in Gardez, Paktiya under the direction of a senior Haqqani leader.

Security forces captured him along with five suspected Haqqani insurgents at
a location in Sayyid Karam, district.

There were no shots fired, and no civilians injured during his apprehension.

An International Security Forces Patrol discovered a weapons cache in Andar
district, Ghazni province yesterday. The cache consisted of four AK-47s, 29
AK-47 magazines, one machine gun, three rocket-propelled grenade rounds,
three RPG launchers, 19 grenades, one cell phone, three handheld radios,
five batteries, three bags of aluminium nitrate, one improvised explosive
device ignition source, nine tactical vests and six motorcycles.

In Mohammad-e Shadid district, Ghazni province, an ISAF patrol was engaged
by an unknown number of insurgents, today. After establishing positive
identification, coalition forces returned fire, killing one insurgent and
wounding another.
