Operations are reported in the following provinces: Kandahar and Paktia: Afghan National Security and International Security Assistance Forces detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a Haqqani network leader in Kandahar city district, Kandahar province yesterday. The leader is responsible for logistics and communications for a major portion of Haqqani insurgents operating in Paktiya province. Additionally, he is responsible for recruitment of young men and possible suicide bombers into the service of the Haqqani network. The search commenced as the force secured and cleared several buildings. Local residents were questioned about insurgent activity in the area and the whereabouts of the insurgent leader. Based on the interviews, several suspected insurgents were taken off the objective and detained for further questioning. The operation was completed with no shots fired and no civilians harmed. The Taliban leader directs insurgents in Nakhonay village, and conducts operations throughout Panjwa'i. He also works with improvised explosive device experts in the district. Intelligence reports of insurgent activity in the area led the combined security force to target a compound in the district. The force secured, searched and cleared the targeted area without using force. The force interviewed local residents, and afterwards, detained two individuals with suspected ties to insurgent activity for further questioning. East In Ahmadabad district, Paktiya province, Monday, Afghan and coalition forces found 15 rocket-propelled grenades, three anti-personnel mines, three hand grenades, 255 12.7 mm machine gun rounds and three RPG boosters. The weapons and ammunition were destroyed by the security forces.
