surrender, the enemy began shooting at unarmed MedEvac Helos, marked with
the Red Cross Symbol.

Two Taliban met their demonic overlords in the last few days.  Two of their
leaders led seven of their buddies into surrender. 

ISAF Command issued an apology for shooting an armed teenager while
protestors gathered to raise cain about the armed insurgent's fate.

More than a ton of opium along with munitions, det cord, explosives and
weapons were captured and destroyed.  ISAF details follow.

Afghan police clashed with hundreds of protestors in eastern Nangarhar
province.

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake has stuck in northern Afghanistan, but there were
no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the epicenter of Sunday's quake was in the
Hindu Kush region near the borders with Pakistan and Tajikistan.

The mountainous region is often hit by earthquakes.

The demonstrators on Saturday were protesting the death of an armed

-armed-teenager.html>  15-year-old during an overnight raid by Afghan and
NATO troops searching for a Taliban leader. The incident took place in the
Hesarak district of Nangahar province. 

A medical evacuation helicopter, marked with the Red Cross symbol, came
under attack by insurgents as medics attempted to recover a wounded NATO
service member in southern Helmand province.  Insurgents opened fire on the
evacuation helicopter as it approached the designated landing area near
where the service member had been injured by an improvised explosive device.
 
A combined Afghan and coalition dismounted patrol conducting clearing
operations struck an IED resulting in one coalition soldier wounded.  The
combined force moved to a nearby area suitable for a helicopter landing, and
called for medical evacuation.
           
"Attacking a medical evacuation helicopter is un-Islamic, inhumane, and a
further demonstration of insurgent hypocrisy," said U.S. Marine Corps Col.
Scott Alley, ISAF Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.

In eastern Khost province, Afghan and coalition forces captured a Haqqani
Network facilitator

and NATO forces.

An Afghan and International Security Assistance Force captured a Taliban
leader during a security operation in Shibirghan District, Jowzjan province
Friday.

The Taliban leader conducted attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He
also facilitated, planned, and coordinated improvised explosive device
activity in the province. 

The combined security force was alerted to the leader's location by
opportune intelligence tips. They isolated the area and secured the area
peacefully without the use of force. The insurgent facilitator was
immediately identified and detained after the force searched the compound. 

No civilians were harmed during the operation. 

In other ISAF news throughout Afghanistan:

North

A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected
insurgents while searching for a Taliban leader in Chahar Darah District,
Kunduz province, Friday.

The Taliban leader is the insurgent military commander for Kunduz province
and former district commander for Chahar Darah. He works with the Kunduz
suicide attack network leader to plan attacks and IED emplacements. 

The combined security force searched for the leader at a compound in the
district. They secured the compound and conducted interviews with local
residents. Two individuals were detained under suspicion of involvement with
Taliban activity in the area.

No civilians were harmed during the operation.

South

KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security and International Security
Assistance Forces detained several insurgents and discovered 176 pounds (80
kilograms) of opium during a counter narcotics operation in Lashkar Gah
District, Helmand province Friday.

The narcotics were safely destroyed on site. 

A combined Afghan and coalition force dismounted patrol discovered four
weapons caches in Panjwa'i District, Kandahar province, Saturday.

The first cache consisted of one rocket-propelled grenade round, two AK-47s,
two AK-47 magazines, one ICOM radio and one 30 mm round. The second cache
contained two AK-47s, 50 AK-47 rounds, seven AK-47 magazines, one grenade,
three chest rigs, one C-7 magazine, 30 5.56 mm rounds and 840 PKM machine
gun rounds. The third consisted of 10 grenades and 2300 PKM rounds, and the
fourth, one RPG tail, 984 feet (300 meters) of detonation cord, one shotgun
with three rounds, 70 AK-47 rounds and a jug of opium tar. 

All weapons have been or will be destroyed by security forces.

Afghan and coalition forces discovered 102 bags, totalling one ton (907 kgs)
of dry opium during a counter narcotics operation in Chahar Burjak district,
Nimroz province Friday. 

The narcotics were safely destroyed on site. 


In Qalat District, Zabul province, Afghan and coalition forces killed two
insurgents during a security operation, Friday.

The combined force conducted the security operation to prevent a Taliban
indirect-fire weapons team from carrying out an attack in the district. The
two insurgents were observed preparing a weapons system for firing, and were
kept under surveillance. With assistance from a coalition aircraft, the
combined force was able to interdict the insurgents. 

There were no civilians harmed during the operation.

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban
facilitator and one of his associates during a security operation in Zharay
District, Kandahar province, Friday.

The senior Taliban facilitator was responsible for supplying IED materials
and weapons to over 15 other Taliban insurgents in the district.

After extensive intelligence gathering, the combined security force searched
for the facilitator at his suspected compound in Zharay District. The search
commenced as the force called for all occupants to exit the buildings
peacefully, allowing them to secure the safety of all women and children.
Once all civilians were secured the force searched the compound and
interviewed residents. Based on the information provided in the interviews
the security force was able to identify and detain the insurgent
facilitator. 

During the operation the force also discovered and safely destroyed a cache
of drugs.

The operation was completed peacefully with no civilians harmed. 

East

A combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Haqqani Network
facilitator and one of his associates during a security operation in Khost
District, Khost province, Friday.

The Haqqani facilitator was responsible for conducting IED and direct
attacks against Afghan National Army and coalition forces. 

Based on numerous reports of insurgent activity in the area, the combined
security force searched for the facilitator at a compound in the district.
The force isolated the targeted compound and called for all occupants to
exit peacefully. All of the individuals complied with the request, allowing
the force to ensure the safety of all women and children. 

While searching the area and conducting interviews with residents, the force
identified the insurgent facilitator and detained him. One of his associates
was also detained for further questioning. 

The operation was conducted peacefully, with no shots fired and no civilians
harmed. 

In Orgun District, Paktika province, a combined Afghan and coalition
security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a
Haqqani Network leader during a security operation Friday.

The Haqqani leader directs sub-commanders and fighters in attacks on Afghan
and coalition forces throughout Orgun, Sar Rowzah, Nikeh, and Ziruk
Districts in Paktika province. Intelligence tips led the security force to a
compound with suspected associations with the Haqqani leader. Commencing
their search, the force secured the area and called for all occupants to
exit the buildings peacefully. After ensuring the safety of all women and
children, the force interviewed local residents.

After initial questioning, several suspected insurgents were detained for
further questioning.

There were no shots fired and no civilians harmed during the operation.

In the same district and province, a separate combined Afghan and coalition
security force detained numerous suspected insurgents while searching for a
Haqqani Network leader Friday.

The Haqqani leader commands a group of fighters in the district and is
directly responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

The combined security force searched for the leader at a compound in Orgun
District after receiving multiple reports of Haqqani activity in the area.
After the initial search, the force conducted interviews with several
individuals about suspected insurgent activity in the area. 

After initial questioning, the force detained the individuals under
suspicion of having ties to insurgent activity. 

No shots were fired during this operation.
