pup> AfghanistanProvincesWar in Afghanistan News reports provided by ISAF
Joint Command. Operations are reported in the following provinces:  Ghazni,
Baghlan, Helmand, Zabul, Logar, Khost, Nangarhar and Paktika.

While searching for Taliban leaders, insurgents who fired on coalition
forces were killed.  A Taliban cell leader involved in IED attacks against
our troops was captured in Zabul province as well as Haqqani members and
RPG's, IED making materials and more. 

In other International Security Assistance Force Joint (ISAF) Command
Operational News throughout Afghanistan: 

Ghazni Province

A combined Afghan and coalition security force killed one insurgent and
detained two others during a security operation targeting a Taliban leader
in Rashidan district, Ghazni province, yesterday.

The leader managed IED attacks against Afghan forces. He also oversaw
movement of supplies and received reports about Afghan and coalition
activity from subordinate insurgents.

After extensive intelligence gathering, the combined security force targeted
a compound in Rashidan district in search of the leader. The force noticed
several suspected insurgents attempting to evade them. One insurgent was
killed as he opened fire on the force. The insurgent was wearing a chest
rack and was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle and grenades. The force
detained two individuals with suspected ties to Taliban activity for further
questioning.

Throughout the operation the security force was careful to ensure the safety
of all civilians.

Baghlan Province

In Baghlan-e Jadid district, Baghlan province, a combined Afghan and
coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security
operation targeting a Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin leader, yesterday.

The leader commands a group of 20 armed insurgents from the Salem Khel
tribe. He utilizes his insurgents to conduct IED attacks against Afghan
forces.

Intelligence reports led the force to a compound in the district in search
of the leader. During the search an Afghan member of the force called for
all occupants to exit the buildings peacefully. After securing the safety of
all civilians, the force searched the area, conducted interviews and
detained two suspected insurgents.

Helmand Province

In Marjah district, Helmand province, a combined Afghan and coalition
security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for a
Taliban leader, yesterday.

The leader has engaged in planning ambushes and other attacks on Afghan
forces. Reports indicate he has also threatened civilians with murder in
order to intimidate Afghans within the district.

Intelligence reports led the combined security force to a compound in the
district in search of the leader. During the search, the force came across
several individuals with suspected ties to Taliban activity in the area.
They were detained for further questioning.

No shots were fired during the operation and no civilians were harmed.

Zabul Province

In Qalat district, Zabul province, a combined Afghan and coalition security
force detained numerous suspected insurgents during a security operation,
yesterday.

The Taliban IED cell leader is responsible for facilitating, constructing,
and emplacing IEDs specifically targeting coalition force vehicles.

Multiple intelligence reports led the security force to the leaders'
suspected compound in the district. After securing the area, the force had
all occupants exit the premises and detained several individuals with
suspected ties to insurgent activity.

During their search, the force discovered several IED making materials
including blasting caps, copper wire and ball bearings.

No civilians were harmed during this operation and no shots were fired.

Logar Province

In Pul-e Alam district, Logar province, a combined Afghan and coalition
security force captured a Taliban facilitator and two of his associates
during a security operation, yesterday.

The Taliban facilitator operated in Pul-e 'Alam and Baraki Barak districts,
Logar province and Gardez district, Paktiya province. He assisted other
insurgents in IED training, and has participated in attacks against Afghan
forces. The facilitator also coordinated equipment shipments from Pakistan
to network insurgents active within Logar, Paktiya, and Khost provinces.

The combined security force located the facilitator at his compound in Pul-e
Alam. Upon arriving and securing the scene, an Afghan member of the force
called for all building occupants to exit the compound. The security force
conducted on-site questioning and based on the information provided; the
insurgent facilitator and two of his associates were identified and
detained.

This current operation was completed with no shots fired and no civilians
harmed.

Khost Province

In Khost district, Khost province, a combined Afghan and coalition security
force captured a Haqqani Network leader and one suspected insurgent
yesterday.

The leader is an IED expert who operated in Sabari district, Khost province
and was responsible for constructing IEDs. He was also involved in weapons
facilitation.

The leader was captured after the combined security force conducted a
security clearance of his compound in the district. The force isolated the
area and had all occupants exit the compound. Afghan members of the force
questioned local residents, resulting in the leader and one of his associate
being detained.

No civilians were harmed during the operation, and the security force
protected sixteen women and thirty-five children while conducting the
search.

In Sabari district, Khost province, a combined Afghan and coalition security
force detained two suspected insurgents while searching for a Haqqani
Network leader yesterday.

The leader is responsible for coordinating IED emplacements and acquiring
weapons for insurgents. He is also associated with direct attacks against
Afghan forces.

The combined security force searched a compound in the district after
multiple intelligence sources indicated insurgent activity in the area. The
force searched and cleared the compound without incident from residents.
After searching the area, the force detained two individuals who they
identified as suspected insurgents.

The force also confiscated a rocket propelled grenade, multiple mines, and
grenades during the search.

There were no shots fired during this operation.

Nangarhar Province

A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected
Taliban insurgents during a clearance operation in Khugyani district,
Nangarhar province yesterday.

The combined force searched and cleared multiple buildings looking for
insurgent activity in the area. After conducting interviews with residents,
the force detained several individuals with suspected ties to Taliban
activity.

Throughout the search, the security force was careful to ensure the safety
of all women and children.

No shots were fired during this operation.

Paktika Province

In Giyan district, Paktika province, a combined Afghan and coalition
security force detained two suspected insurgents during a clearance
operation yesterday.

The force searched several buildings in Pir Koti valley in search of Taliban
activity. After interviewing local residents, the force detained two
suspected insurgents.

The operation was completed with no shots fired and no civilians harmed.
