damned idiot!!! Whoops! Obama gets his dates mixed up by three years May 26, 2011 - 12:19PM Sydney Morning Herald clip_image001 US President Barack Obama signs the distinguished visitors' book at Westminster Abbey. Photo: Getty Images US President Barack Obama appears to be yearning for the glory days of 2008. Three years ago Mr Obama was on the campaign trail, riding high on the "Yes we can" wave and making history as he looked likely to become the first African American president of the United States. So it's no wonder he's stuck in time, signing his name in Westminster Abbey's distinguished visitors' book and marking the date as "24 May 2008". London's <http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/barackobama/8533856/Barack-Obama- lays-memorial-wreath-at-Westminster-Abbey.html> The Telegraph reported Mr Obama wrote: "It is a great privilege to commemorate our common heritage and our common sacrifice." He was heard to ask the Dean of Westminster what the date was, but wrote 2008 instead of 2011. A Westminster Abbey spokeswoman confirmed it was the President who wrote the incorrect date. The American media also picked up on the President's error. "It was really nice until he got the date wrong by three years," <http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/05/president_obama_has_no_idea_wh.html> New York magazine wrote. "Granted, 2008 was a great year for him, and we might try to live it for as long as possible, too, if we were him. "Also, though, he may have had a stroke." <http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20065818-503544.html> CBS News wrote: "Perhaps reminiscing over more exciting times for him, the President mistakenly wrote the date as 24 May 2008." While visiting the Abbey, the President laid a wreath of red and white carnations and blue hydrangeas on the grave of the Unknown Warrior. Mr Obama and his wife also met the choir boys in the Abbey, with the first lady making fun of the President's lack of singing skills, the Telegraph reported. The Dean, Dr John Hall, said: "He insisted on speaking to each one of them and shaking their hands. "He said that he liked to think he could sing and Mrs Obama said 'Well, he can't really; he can dance.' "In the end he said he would come back and sing with them. "He said in his second term he would come back and visit because it was just too short." People waiting outside the Abbey gave three cheers and yelled out: "We love you, we love you." smh.com.au Read more: <http://www.smh.com.au/world/whoops-obama-gets-his-dates-mixed-up-by-three-y ears-20110526-1f5eb.html#ixzz1NSBnbpNy> http://www.smh.com.au/world/whoops-obama-gets-his-dates-mixed-up-by-three-ye ars-20110526-1f5eb.html#ixzz1NSBnbpNy [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
