Police arrested at The Pierre 74-year-old Egyptian banker Mahmoud
Abdel-Salam Omar for allegedly sexually assaulting a 44-year-old hotel
housekeeper in his $900-a-night room, the stories say.

He was charged with "sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching

Omar is chairman of a prominent Middle Eastern salt company, and is the
former head of the Bank of Alexandria, the story says.

According to the Daily News article, police sources say this is what
happened at about 6 p.m. Sunday:

He had called for room service requesting tissues and answered the door in
his pajamas, police sources said. When the maid, whom he had not
specifically requested, arrived at his 10th-floor room, he asked her to put
the box of tissues on a table, sources said. As she moved toward the table,
he locked the door.
"He locked her in the room and had her trapped," a police source said. "He
grabbed her breasts, groped her. He was grinding against her."

He then asked the woman for her phone number, the story says. She gave him a
fake number and then fled the room, the story says.

The incident was reported to police on Monday morning. It's not clear why it
was not reported sooner.

"Experienced NYPD detectives found the complainant to be credible," Paul
Browne, the NYPD's top spokesman told the Daily News.

The Pierre gave the New York Times this statement: "We will fully comply
with the investigation as requested."

Since his arrest, Strauss-Kahn, 62, resigned as chief of the International
Monetary Fund and is living under house arrest in Manhattan while awaiting
trial.

This morning, the Wall Street Journal reports that the defense team for
