I think the differences in format are pretty different. In one case you have a response that contains a sequence of resource representations, each with properties, and in the other case you get one resource with a multi-valued property that has resource values-types.
Conceptually, this may make sense but I think it is pretty hard to explain to consumer and provider implementations.
