Thanks for your answer. I think I understand now, but the Appendix A just 
says this,

>> "For the purposes of the OSLC Query Syntax, indicate" [1]

It stops at "indicate." Can someone with edit authority fix that?

Sam,

That means the property is used to state membership of a resource in a 
collection. It is used when you filter a collection resource with a query. 

If we were using RDFS we'd make the property a subproperty of rdfs:member.
