There were some needs from CM consumers to learn who the current 
authenticated user is, returning the URI for the current user (as 
indicated by request headers)

This stemmed from the scenario of how to define queries for the current 
user, for example "My ToDo list".  This could have been solved by 
introducing "query variables" or some such thing:  for example, 
$currentUser.

There may be additional scenarios where this could be useful but think it 
has common potential across other domains
