Yeah - I'm a regular - on and off for about 10 years. Facilitating (and
teaching) OST regularly/professionally. OST is great - and so is this little
on-line community.

Hey - I'm a regular lurker. Heard about OS ten years ago. Discovered the OSLIST
pretty recently. Applying the law of two feet with my two eyes. Love HO's mails.

Hi Daniel and everyone,
I haven't yet gotten used to the modern meaning of "lurker" and don't ever
identify as one. But I've been an OSList subscriber & once-in-a-blue-moon
post-er since 2003 (that is: since first being life-changingly introduced
to OST).
My active participation is in the listening/reading space at the rim; and
in being in deep friendship with people whom I first got to meet & then
came to love in Open Space somewhere or another; and in applying the
principles of practice in my own life a lot of the time.
It's enlivening to see both the old hands and the new waves of Open Space
lovers in what I have always experienced as a wide and welcoming space here
on the OSList.

I am a regular lurker.
For many years I was an active participant. I have been doing OST and
OST inspired work continuously for about 20 years and used to be an
OSONOS regular. A few of the active participants will remember me.
Life got very complicated a number of years ago and, while I still do
the work, I rarely feel comfortable adding my 2 cents. Occasionally
offer my 2 bits... I guess that's what happens when interest accrues
on my 2 cents over time.
I lurk to feel some sense of connection to the OST community and to be
inspired by your work.

Hi, mostly lurking for many years.
The experience, curiosity, wisdom and generosity demonstrated through this list
is very important to me, my work and life.
I particularly enjoy the principles of open space as practiced by the
participants:
No admonishments about perceived ?off topic? threads,
No shut-downs when (if) there?s a flurry of un-subscriptions due to the above.
With thanks

Hi,

I have been lurking on the OSLIST for 3 years now. I absolutely enjoy the

I keep thinking of writing, but then see all the wisdom on the list and think,

Subject: [OSList] Are You a frequent Lurker on OSLIST?
?
Some of us were on a call on Tuesday, talking about Open Space....and OSLIST....
...the participants at the time were....
Chuni Li
Daniel Mezick
Karen Davis
Linda Stevenson
Lucas Cioffi
Paul Levy
Peggy Holman
Skye Hirst
Suzanne Daigle
Tricia Chirumbole
Harold Shinsato
We discussed OSLIST culture, and how the culture of OSLIST may not actually be
very easy to figure out...
...we talked about how this list has hundreds upon hundreds of members, with
just 25 to 45 people (give or take) who post or reply with anything close to a
regular frequency, and how some speak with highly authoritative voices.
...we talked a bit about how the culture of OSLIST might actually be kind of
intimidating for new people to participate in.
The Game
We have no idea how many "regular lurkers" are in the group...we talked about
trying to find out.
So: if you are a "regular lurker", someone who examines these OSLIST threads
periodically but does not actively participate ...? are you willing to play a little game?
The Lurker Game: you are invited to play...
1. ...The goal is to collectively get some idea of how many of us on the list are
"regular lurkers".
2. ...The rules are:
If you consider yourself a "regular lurker", consider opting in to the game, by
replying...
If you reply, absolutely nothing further will be asked of you. All you are
doing is identifying yourself as someone who lurks. That's it.
3. ...We'll all track the progress by watching the thread, and seeing how many
reply over time.
4. ...Participation is opt-in.
To participate, just hit [Reply List] and enter "hey" and press [Enter] ...or...
... (optionally) just say whatever you might want to say, instead
We have no idea what might happen next; let's see what develops.
Thanks!
Daniel

Hello
I've been a regular "lurker" since the WOSONOS in London. I have had some small
experience of running OS events and use the list and the amazing contributions as
inspiration to remind me why I love doing this and and that there are other ways and
people out there doing things differently.
Thank you for being and doing.

Hey everyone,
I definitely participate and lurk in this list since many years. Mostly silent,
sometimes reading, often feeling and holding space. I feel connected to the
community and I get inspiring ideas for my practice as OS Facilitator, human
beeing and colleague. Thanks!
Big hugs from Berlin,

Hi,
I am a frequent 'participant' in the discussion- but almost always only in my
head. I engage in the conversation, try-on different responses, sometimes even
start composing them, but then hit 'cancel' rather than 'send'. Usually with
the feeling that my opinion/view/response/experience is just not worthy of the
group. So I lurk. And feel some shame about this. Forgoodnesssakes, I am even a
facilitator! Thank you for the prompt/invitation to de-lurk!

This is a good reason to thank you all for sharing all your knowledge and

Dear all,
It is very interesting - that asking who are lurkers - encouraged the lurkers
to come out and write a few sentences...
I am curious - how do we really define LURKERS?
Would love to listen to your thoughts on this....

Hi Everybody !
Stephane, from Quebec city, I must confess : I'm a frequent lurker on this
list. :-)
Appreciating each kind word or gift exchanged or question asked.
I am a partisan of the saying "if you don't have anything relevant to
tell... Then shut your mouth" :-)
I often evaluate my exp?riences in OS not relevant enough to answer .
I must also confess that this is the shy, humble guy in me that talks and
takes control... :-)
Thanks for this post that lead to a little introspection :-)
Have a nice day !

In the game, as described, the definition of [lurker] is clear:
"...someone who examines these OSLIST threads periodically but does not
actively participate."
The definition is purposefully loose, so anyone can self-identify with
it, and optionally play the game.

Dear Dan, thank you so much for posting this invitation. To see so many
names that I don't really know pop up warms my heart. I feel the larger
world presence.
I know I don't fall into the "lurker" category. Don't quite understand why
as I had been a behind the scenes, in the shadows for most of my life and
career. Somehow Open Space gave me to courage to blurt instead of lurk
and... blurt I still do. Often feeling that what I have to say may not have
the depth of knowledge that others have but I'll self-admit to wearing my
heart on my sleeve more and more as I grow older. It's because I've seen
Open Space unlock so many hearts, giving so many the courage to speak up
and step out though I also honor the huge value of silence and presence.
All part of life and open space.
When I started speaking out loud on this list, I felt uncomfortable, not
wanting to draw attention to myself (still feel that way) but what
surprised me most were the notes sent to me privately appreciating that
what I had said, they felt too. Others encouraged me to keep writing. And
then like others, at times I felt the disapproval (real or perceived), I
felt insecure and it scared me but it also made me grow. I'm still growing
inside.
Our conversation this week with Dan and others was imbued with deep
sharing and questions. We spoke our own experience on the OS list and
wondered about others...do we feel safe to speak our contrary views, do
others? If Harrison or those with long experience in Open Space speak
their wisdom and it may not be ours, does it feel comfortable to speak up
and counter those views? Is it shutting down the dialogue? Does the OS
list in its written form limit how we can push our own boundaries? Words
can be so limiting. Then we talked about Tricia's weekly Skype call which
has opened a deeper and different sharing. We all agreed that the OS list
is invaluable and so rich in so many ways.
And then I mentioned "love" ... the deep love for many and with many in
this community, a love that ultimately should create giant spaces for
conflict, for discordant views, for harmony, for celebration, for a knot in
our stomach or the warm fuzzy feeling of gratitude.
Yup... I still have that knot in my stomach right now hoping that all this
doesn't sound too mushy or raw. Coming from the business world, it was not
often welcome to bring the whole of us to work, the playful, the emotional
and the serious side. I still feel that way but a lot less.
Enough said for today. Big hugs to all, lurkers and non-lurkers. We are
all welcome here! And may we make room for many more and welcome them too.

principles of practice in my own life a lot of the time.
It's enlivening to see both the old hands and the new waves of Open Space
lovers in what I have alwayand the new waves of Open Space lovers in what I
have always experienced as a wide and welcoming space here on the OSList.

Chris was I think an early holder of the record for the largest OST.
Until someone (Michael Pannwitz?) held a larger one.
I mostly lurk too, sometimes throwing in a note from the past. The early
OT symposia and OSONOS conferences were joys I shall not forget.
Always appreciate new voices and perspectives as well.

Subject: Re: [OSList] Are You a frequent Lurker on OSLIST?
I am a regular lurker.
For many years I was an active participant. I have been doing OST and
OST inspired work continuously for about 20 years and used to be an
OSONOS regular. A few of the active participants will remember me.
Life got very complicated a number of years ago and, while I still do
the work, I rarely feel comfortable adding my 2 cents. Occasionally
offer my 2 bits... I guess that's what happens when interest accrues
on my 2 cents over time.
I lurk to feel some sense of connection to the OST community and to be
inspired by your work.

Quoting Daniel Mezick via OSList <oslist@lists.openspacetech.org>:
Some of us were on a call on Tuesday, talking about Open
Space....and OSLIST....
...the participants at the time were....
Chuni Li
Daniel Mezick
Karen Davis
Linda Stevenson
Lucas Cioffi
Paul Levy
Peggy Holman
Skye Hirst
Suzanne Daigle
Tricia Chirumbole
Harold Shinsato
We discussed OSLIST culture, and how the culture of OSLIST may not
actually be very easy to figure out...
...we talked about how this list has hundreds upon hundreds of
members, with just 25 to 45 people (give or take) who post or reply
with anything close to a regular frequency, and how some speak with
highly authoritative voices.
...we talked a bit about how the culture of OSLIST /might actually
be kind of intimidating for new people/ to participate in.
The Game
We have no idea how many "regular lurkers" are in the group...we
talked about trying to find out.
So: if you are a "regular lurker", someone who examines these OSLIST
threads periodically but does not actively participate ... are you
willing to play a little game?
The Lurker Game: you are invited to play...
1. *...The goal* is to collectively get some idea of how many of us
on the list are "regular lurkers".
2. *...The rules* are:
* If you consider yourself a "regular lurker", consider opting in to
the game, by replying...
* If you reply, absolutely nothing further will be asked of you. All
you are doing is identifying yourself as someone who lurks. That's
it.
3. ...We'll all track *the progress* by watching the thread, and
seeing how many reply over time.
4. ...Participation is *opt-in*.
To participate, just hit [Reply List] and enter "hey" and press
[Enter] ...or...
... (optionally) just say whatever you might want to say, instead
We have no idea what might happen next; let's see what develops.
Thanks!
Daniel
