Jim & Michele McCarthy were tasked with reproducing the amazing team
they had at Microsoft. They got a number of participants for their first
workshop. They tasked them to create their own class. The task of the
class was to "create a class that teaches you everything you need to
know about shipping great products on time every time."
In other words - they gave it to the team to come up with the workshop.
Repeat it hundreds of times, accumulate the learning, and they came up
with a brilliant process that reminds me of the spirit and feeling I get
in Open Space. It's documented in their book "Software For Your Head".
So yes, maybe it would work to have them define their own curriculum. It
might work 10 X better than any other way.

It makes me very curious about other forms of experimentation. For example,
I'm about to start a series of virtual leadership development programs in a
peer group. Maybe I should have them define the curriculum and teach each
other ???

of the experiment -- and the results. Definitely outside the box and I hope
it will become a challenge to all of us to venture outside in similar
fashion.

I believe in self organized systems, but this self organized learning is
really amazing for me.
Nice regards.

Here is a link to a TED talks video that describes open space
learning. It is pretty fascinating.
