To All: I recall a story from a college age woman who was traveling to the Middle East and befriended people who were not aware of her Jewish heritage. As the depth of the relationship grew, she felt afraid yet compelled to share her truth and "risk" the growing friendship. The details of this story may be off, but as she shared her truth, the friendship deepened and then broadened. It may be from the Appreciative Inquiry "domain" that I recall this story. It evolved into two villages from "each side" getting together and sharing despite the cultural prohibitions to do so. Children and older adults were the first to participate and their participation facilitated a broader participation.
Stories have power. I hope I have rendered this story in a form "close enough" that someone else will recall the correct details.
