Jeff-- I had a short Open Space with some other activity expected, and I thought I could have only one time slot (the subjects were complex, frightening, contentious). The group proposed so many sessions that they self-managed dividing the time to allow more discussions, and the client also extended the time when he saw how valuable the discussions were.
I agree with you that just one session time does not have quite the right feel. My concern is that people miss an important part of the experience and think OS is just another format.
