Blake-- I agree with Birgitt to keep it simple. Making a complicated scheme to see that everyone gets to be everywhere is just confusing and diffuses the passion. Your client is right--what gets done is what people truly have passion for; it's the only thing that gets done anyway.
My music teacher used to say that last-minute jitters were caused by energy building for your performance, energy which has no place to go until you begin. Her remedy was to pace while warming up.
