Dear Ray, I think this is a wonderful discussion that gets me all excited because it is about me being facilitator. Givens to me are neither "boundaries" nor "limits". What I care about is that the givens in an organisation/system are stated. To me, thats part of my job to remind the sponsor and others to be clear on the givens. I dont care at all about how that what we call givens is perceived: as limit, boundary, challenge, gift, obstacle, rumor, springboard, etc. I am not about letting people know how far they can go/cant go. My idea is that they in turn wouldnt give a damn. My job is to see to it that the sponsor opens the space, I provide the technology and then do my best to "hold" time and space during the open space. Maybe I am missing something here but I keep getting this control image coming up and since I am such a control freak (its turning out to be a lifetime process to get away from it in a slight little way) this gets me all excited. Greetings from now late nite Berlin michael
