Michael-- Sure does sound like living in open space!
Wanted to get back to you with thanks for your good materials on your website. I printed the executive summary and the piece with language for invitation/opening and used them as handouts for the meeting with the management team. Also had in hand some sample invitations. Paul later explored your website on his own, said it was good stuff, and printed off a bunch for his own education. Had an uphill meeting to write the theme, with the managers focussing entirely on improving the quality of life in the workplace, and me trying to say that would happen as a result of the open space--the theme could be larger and more outward-looking. We ended up with "ME, My Job and WE," and the director, in a later conversation, has agreed to talk about the mission and vision of the department to serve the people of Olympia. The report cover, which I received yesterday, has added "Enhancing Quality of Life." The management team is very excited about the event, which will happen on the 26th. Three-quarters of the entire department have signed up, in spite of the fact that the Parks/Arts/Recreation programs will run that day as usual. I was hoping for a space on the Evergreen campus, but we have an equally good one at the Lacey Community Center--a huge banquet hall, divided into a big square meeting room and a smaller space with round tables for lunch and breakout. More breakout space in the big meeting room, an adjoining terrace, and the lobby area. Lots of big windows looking out on a small lake and lawns, which are accessible for outside conversations. The OSList has been a great resource, backing me up with handout materials, Micheal P's process for developing a theme, discussions re: opening--arriving as needed. Just in case I need a refresher session! Give my love to Sheila, and my greetings to friends at OT. Wish I were going, but it is not in the cards just now.
