NTL Workshop: Facilitating Organization Change: Lessons from Complexity Science 6/28/2003 - 7/2/2003 a.. How do we plan when the future is unknowable? b.. What does control mean in an unpredictable, nonlinear world? c.. How do we build adaptable structures and cultures that can survive over time? d.. How can change leaders manage the conditions that support self-organizing processes in complex, unpredictable, and paradoxical situations? We will explore these questions on individual, group, and system levels in Facilitating Organization Change: Lessons from Complexity Science. Ed Olson and Maya Townsend will lead this intensive, intermediate, highly interactive, and participant-focused workshop at the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science's campus in beautiful Bethel, Maine. We'll build on the work Ed Olson and Glenda Eoyang described in their popular Jossey-Bass/Pfeiffer book and, through exercises, discussion, reflection, and experimentation, discuss how to make complexity work for you. You will leave the session with: a.. Understanding of the ways in which complexity can strengthen your practice as a change leader. b.. Experience with the power of self-organizing. c.. Personal attention to difficult back-home cases and analysis of those cases through complexity lenses. d.. A game plan for applying complexity in your life and practice. If you enjoyed Ed's presentation (Complexity 101) or Maya's presentation (Fractals and Antfarms and Jazz -- Oh My!: Lessons from Complexity Science) at the 2002 ODN Conference, you'll benefit from this session.
