Dear Peggy and OS List, Thanks for your most informative response. We read the attachments and reviewed the web page.
We also are responding to the entire list. Is this appropriate or should we be communicating directly? As it turns out last Monday evening (9/15) we took our initial idea below to a new monthly Open Space event here in Western North Carolina -- in the Smoky Mountains, in Asheville, NC -- sponsored by Spirit In The Smokies, an alternative & spiritual magazine we have here. Two of the market place groups dealt with this topic. In the third pass of the evening about 15 of us decided to meet next Monday evening to follow up on an alternative to organized religion. Also, the two of us, at the urging of some other list members attended a Quaker (Friends) meeting last Sunday and found it somewhat satisfying but still short on OS philosophy. As our group progresses we will make them aware of this email and the web page. However, we have one question that perhaps you can shed some light on. In looking to create an alternative to organized religion most of us are trying to get away from hierarchy (ministers, practitioners and "proper" organization.) Our question: is your program too far along for it to be useful to an exploratory process such as we are about? Your process obviously reflects where you have evolved to. In great respect and appreciation, we wonder if the kernel isn't as far as we should go as we start to evolve, relying on ourselves to step through our own process. Perhaps you have some insight into this question? Warmly, Peter and Esther Fisher Peggy Holman wrote:
Peter and Esther, I'm replying off the OS list becuase so much time has passed and I'm just catching up. Also, I wanted to send an attachment, which I don't like to do on the list. Spirited Work is an open space learning community that sounds like it has much in common with what you're envisioning. I've attached a flyer about it and a paper we wrote about our 5 years of experience, meeting 4 times a year in Open Space. It is intended to help others who wish to start similar communities. Please let me know if you'd like to know more. (I am retired from GM.) Since then my wife Esther and I have participated in several OS events and even facilitated a couple ourselves. We have also been active in alternative conscious explorations. This list, of many we subscribe to, seems most open to new thinking and hence we ask for your help. We have this idea and hunger to LIVE more fully in OpenSpace, having reached all kinds of limits in "regular" organizations and we are thinking about placing the following announcement/ad in the Mountain Xpress and Spirit In The Smokies (which are alternative press vehicles) here in Asheville North Carolina. We would appreciate suggestions/input/ideas and thoughts relative to our approach. We would also appreciate hearing more on how you LIVE daily in OpenSpace. Here is the piece we have constructed so far: "CENTER for BEING 828-298-5800: Sundays 11:00 am - 12:30. A leaderless alternative to organized religion in Asheville. Being and practicing conscious presence together as One. Facilitated only by spirit or intelligence. Together, in a circle, we explore and practice deep listening, sensitivity, synchronicity, spontaneity -- sharing from our hearts & minds. Based on Aquarian Age and New Millennium truths in such modern manuscripts as: "The Power of Now" & "Stillness Speaks" by Eckhart Tolle; "Beyond Belief, The Secret Gospel of Thomas" by Elaine Pagels," Harry Potter" by J. K. Rawlings and others." Warmly, with appreciation Peter & Esther Fisher Asheville, North Carolina * * ========================================================== [email protected] ------------------------------ To subscribe, unsubscribe, change your options, view the archives of [email protected], Visit: http://listserv.boisestate.edu/archives/oslist.html
