to michaelmp and birgittw (and all)...

first to listing of names... given your passion for the titling of
things, it seems right that your name be listed there still as one who
supports the emergence of these things, michaelp. when people contact
you and ask for such a thing, you can explain that to them and see what
you do together. clearly, you know something about what happens "down
the line" from the first event <grin>

second to titles of page... oh my... interactive org, openspace org,
conscious, and let's not forget my favorite "inviting org" ...all true
and all part of the whole. then add key words like practice, ongoing,
everyday. birgitt first suggesting this page would be listed in the
"more about ost" section of the homepage... but i moved it to action. i
think that's often the mindset of folks asking about this. "how do we
move into action" and "how do we keep it going" and "how do we do this
everyday" seem to be the usual questions. given the opportunty to come
back to this a day later and after some thoughtful comments here, i've
renamed the page to be "OngoingOpenSpace." i think this captures some
of the easy simplicity of your comments, michaelmp. i think it lines up
well with what people come looking and asking for. and i think it
shifts the focus *away* from the points on which we differ a bit,
questions of what to call the org-type that emerges and what constitutes
this "kind" of org and *toward* the thing that we all agree on: that
ost can be repeated early and often after a first event, with marginally
increasing benefit to everyone in and around the org. so i make the
page "OngoingOpenSpace" because it seems to be the heart of our
agreement and what others want to know about.

third, michaelmp... you are welcome to post the bit from martin's
site... (or martin, you can post it) directly to the new page.

finally, thanks to gabriela ender who posted a bit about
openspace-online there on the new page.

please note that the new address for the page is
http://www.openspaceworld.org/wiki/wiki/wiki.cgi?OngoingOpenSpace

anyone else with articles or resources or stories to share on this topic
are welcome to go add links to this page.

thanks, michaelh

Michael,
Thank you for putting up the new page and for having a link to it right from
the English home page. From the early 90's we have worked with the open
space organization and it merits its place of importance. I think the title
Open Space Organization is great and generic and lets each of the branches
that have developed in this tree flourish on their own while acknowledging
they are from the same tree.

I wish you joy, peace, God's grace and blessings, and that you prosper in
all things,

Birgitt

Subject: Re: Open Space Organizations... A NEW PAGE!

yes, a new page is born... at the suggestion of birgitt and perhaps
sparked by recent postings...

http://www.openspaceworld.org/wiki/wiki/wiki.cgi?OpenSpaceOrganization

i have posted some things i know about from birgitt, my own writings,
and harrison's stuff.

i expect that messrs. pannwitz, nelson, corrigan, kjerulf, ms. sanchez
and likely many others of you have some experience in these matters.
please post something to the list or to me directly or BEST is to post
it right into the new page.

if you post directly to the site, PLEASE do what you can to align your
contribution to the layout and content and spirit of what is already there.

and to the osi-usa board... this popped up yesterday after our
conversation... so perhaps this IS our next topic?

many thanks for whatever you can contribute to this new page and the
documentation of our practice and power.

please jump in!

hi zelle...

it's only just begun here, but the illinois latino prevention network
has just reconstituted themselves in os as the latino coalition for
prevention services. their mission and initial open space 2 days was
focused on transforming how the state of illinois requests, funds and
delivers prevention services (preventing drugs, teen preg, domestic
violence, and other stuff baddies). we did the first os in dec, then
followed in jan with a 2-day follow-up and practice workshop. a
seemless mix of training and continued work. a number of new things
planned. all proceedings posted to a wiki web. the re-drew the org
chart full of overlapping circles. membership in leadership groups is
open to all. they are just starting, but seem to be making a lot of
what seem like "right" moves.

if julie smith is too busy to see and respond to this, there are notes
from what we did in fairbanks posted in the stories list at
http://www.globalchicago.net/ost ...in that case the "org" was the
fairbanks schools, so all kinds of things large and small happened. at
one point about 8 months after we were there, julie reported an average
of 3 os-inspired meetings happening each week. some of her reports are
posted on the stories page i've referred to here.

don't forget the Univ of Kentucky story in Tales from Open Space.

hi to maureen, too.

Dear Zelle,
although I am not sure that continuing to meet in open space makes an
Open Space Organization, or, as I prefer to call it, an InterActive
Organisation, I have worked with two organizations that use open space
on a regular basis in their ongoing work. One of these uses it
internally the other both internally and in projects that they conduct.
I will forward your request to membrs of both organizations and to Jo
Toepfer who is also working with two other clients that are moving in
similar directions.
Apart from your immediate request re your potential client: Jo
Toepfer, Hans-Georg Wicke and I are planning an international
gettogether for clients and facilitators working along the lines that
you are requesting information for. If you want to be part of that
gathering (we have no date yet nor a space), write an email to Jo
([email protected]).
In case you are interested specifically in what it takes from my
experience to have os-technology events facilitated by people from
within the organization I can provide some information from
observations I made while being a coach during such an event.
Have a wonderful weekend,
greetings from Berlin

Hello!

I have a potential client who needs real life examples of companies who
can keep the results from the first Open Space event going by continuing
to meet in OS, who after their initial OS event began holding all of
their meetings in Open Space without the need for an external
facilitator every time.

Can you put me/us in contact with any such organizations?
- not an example where an organization meets every year in OS, but one
that lives their daily work lives more in Open Space and less in
hierarchy.

What I have in mind when I say OS organizations, I'm talking about
subsequent meetings held in OS trickling through the organization; In
house OS facilitators (with some sort of training included in the
transformation from "typical" organization to an Open Space
organization) - A culture of invitation, passion bounded by
responsibility vs. responsibilities dictating actions, leaders emerging
vs. being appointed...etc.

Thanks for any contributions!

With Grace and Love,

Zelle
