The Butterfly Effect

They say the flip of a butterfly wing
in Peking can change the weather
in New York. I don't know
about New York City,
but your kiss, light on my lips
as a butterfly wing,
is stirring the weather in me.

In the heavy silence before rain
something opens
a crack between long-closed shutters.
Without a sound, something moves in the dark.

If I jump up now I can slam the shutter,
close out the storm, but I sit,
rain and tears on my face, holding
all the sweet chaos of the night.
