Christy--

In an Open Space conference last summer, one young woman walked in, looked
around, and announced "I'm not sittin' in no circle!"

Then she put her things on a chair, got a cup of coffee, and sat down in the
circle of chairs. And she was a very active participant all day, too.
Lovely to have a choice!

The issue of choice in school programs where the course or meeting is
required is a tough one. I opened space for a graduate-school program, and
they had
struggled with this issue. In the end, everyone came, but some admitted
that they had not felt they had a real choice in the decision.
