Dear All,
I'm afraid I got a bit behind schedule in confirming this gathering.
I hope those who are interested have been following this discussion, and
you saw that I had suggested meeting this evening (Jan 9th) at the Cedar
Tavern in the Village. I suggest 6:30pm as a start time.
For those that aren't aware, the idea is that people interested in OS just
get together and talk with/learn from/enjoy time with others who are also
interested in OS. It's a tradition all around the world that these
meetings happen on the first Monday of every odd month. (The second
Monday this month because of New Years Day.)
The Cedar Tavern has a nice upstairs area that I hope will be conducive to
this idea. They will have no idea that this is planned, so just look
around for some Open Space being held when you get there. The Cedar
Tavern has food and drink, too. Here's the address:
82 University Pl. (Greenwich Village)
between 11th and 12th Sts. (2 blocks south from the southwest corner of
Union Square)
212-929-9089
Hope to see you tonight!

Hello again, All.
I've only had a few responses to my last-minute inquiry about whether it
was a good idea to try to have an NYC gathering on Jan 2. Some were
available and others weren't and were skeptical that people would be
around
on the holiday.
I sort of inherited the role of organizer for NYC, but since I just got
back from a trip I couldn't send an announcement in good time, so I'm
tempted to say the second Monday is better for this month (Jan 9).
As for location, I just had an idea that Cedar Tavern on University Place
might work. I haven't been recently, but it did have a nice laid back
atmosphere upstairs last I was there. Any thoughts would be welcome.
So, the story is: no gathering on Jan 2; yes on Jan 9 - location to be
confirmed, watch this space.
I hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone. We'll get this thing on track
soon - growing pains!

Hello Laurence,
great to hear it continues!
Greetings from Germany, where in Bielefeld we have agreed to change the
date to Jan 9th, so people can enjoy longer holidays.
The last time we met here in November, we chose a cafe with same extra
free space (waiters are paid differently and therefore more open over here
for people who self-organize than in most parts of the US as I have
learned) and we even had a "kind-of-open space" with a very short
introduction and ten people swarming out, meeting within two time slots
and
for about seven topics all together). In January we will have the good
luck
to get acess to the workplace of one participant, people bringing food
themselves; we felt that music and smoke in he cafe (yeah! People are
allowed to smoke almost everywhere, that's the downside in German cafes,
at
least for me..., ah, always something missing ;-) ) were a little
disturbing to our exciting and meaningful conversations.
Hope you get the chance to find a more quit place, too!
And to you and everybody else on this wonderful, amazing, warming my
heart, exciting me again and again, fabulous list:
Wishing you a very joyful New Years Eve, tomorrow, worth the special year
coming !!!
I am looking forward to seeing you again next year, my family in spirit,
in Moscow and around the world,

Hello All,
If you are (have been or will be) in the New York area, you may be
aware
that some folks are trying to get a regular gathering going of people
interested in OS. Following the 'Stammtisch' approach suggested by our
German colleagues that is in use all over the OS world, we have been
meeting on the first Monday of each odd month. September was the first
and November was the second. Each time, the four principles and the
one
law were in full force.
I am, for the moment, something of an organizer of this, but it's all
very
new to me. For example, I'm not sure if Stammtischers stick to the
schedule when it lands on holidays, etc. such as it would this time on
Jan
2.
I would love to hear from others who are thinking of attending in NYC
(as
well as anyone who isn't, of course).
As for location, we still don't have 'our place' yet. The ideal would
be
a bar/cafe with room for a small crowd and where we could hear each
other. Barring that, I'm thinking about some indoor public spaces on
the
Upper West Side. Suggestions are welcome!
