Five more days to post your poems for this year's Poetry Contest. The theme
for poems is OST; the form is satire.

Satire: A literary work in which irony, derision, or wit in any form is
used to expose folly or wickedness. (American Heritage dictionary)

Satire: (from Latin satira, satura, a poetic medley; from satura, a dish
filled with various fruits, a medley; from satur, full of food, sated) A poem
or prose work holding up human vices, follies, etc. to ridicule or scorn.
Trenchant wit, irony or sarcasm, used for the purpose of exposing and
discrediting vice or folly. (Webster's New Collegiate dictionary)

Poets, satirists, wits . . . we await your words. What folly would you like
to expose . . . or celebrate?

Joelle Everett
the almost-ex-poet laureate
