Hi, Patricia -
You wrote: < "Has anyone used Open Space with school-age children or youth? seems like they would get the process quickly!"> I have done OS with young people - the most dramatic one was for 850 youth from ages 14 to 18 - the theme was inspired by Gandhi's "Be the change you want to see in the world". Numbers don't always measure everything, but just to give you an idea of the energy - in 20 minutes they posted 225 sessions on the Agenda Wall. Topics ranged from "Child Soldiers", "Guns in Homes", "Death Penalty - Right or Wrong?" and "How Modern Language Can Lead to Dispute" to "Who Will Pay for AIDS", "US Intervention in Foreign Countries", "Race and Culture" and "Can An Artist Change the World?". You can read about it in the archives under "My Most Difficult Open Space Ever" (the difficulty was not because I got to work with fabulous young people - it was more the physical space and the challenging client). It is also great for when you are combining youth and adults at a conference, meeting or forum. "Levels the playing field" as the young leaders convene discussions and teach wisdom just as much as the oldsters.
