Andrew,
I facilitated a daylong open space sponsored by a community group of
architects, planners, and activists. The purpose was to generate community
input for renewing a famous neighborhood in San Francisco, which was given
to the city planning department to inform their own planning process with
this neighborhood.
There were tables covered with maps and photos at each session of the open
space, along with flipcharts to capture the proceedings. It was not a
charrette, but the architects told me it felt like a charrette.
We created a high quality report. City planners were present, however, the
sponsor did not have any guarantees that the report would be utilized in the
final plan. I did not learn (two years later) what the final plan said.

Excellent, yes the archives did indeed help! I found some interesting posts
from 2004 about urban design/planning (the real focus) that mentioned
something called Charrettes. I found some further info online, at the
National Charrette Institute (NCI) (http://www.charretteinstitute.org) and
the Charrette Center (http://www.charrettecenter.net) websites. The latter
has a wealth of information to aid anyone wanting to host a Charrette.
Is there anyone on this list who has experience of a Charrette?

HI Andrew!
If I am not totally wrong I recall a story about an office who
was designed after an OS meeting was it Joelle (?) who told that story
I have a vague memory about a move in to a new place
? Hmm, maybe a look
in the archives could help you J
I also know that the barn we were in for the OSonOS in Swenmark
2003 was built after an Open Space maybe Gerard can fill in on that
All the best
:o)

Thanks Doug!
Of course, if there are any other (lesser known) case studies out there of
working with planning and design of new buildings and/or urban areas, it
would
be great to hear about them! :)

Andrew--
Is the something big the World's Fair pavillion for AT&T? You might take
a look at http://www.openspaceworld.org/cgi/wiki.cgi?OpenSpaceExamples
--it is the third bullet.
Perhaps Harrison can fill you in with more details if that's the one,
Andrew.
