Hi Oscar, good to see you on OSLIST I think it is important to have clarity with the sponsor about the purpose, I guess it's scope is limited to having some good conversations and exchange ideas around the issue at hand. I usually manage to get more time for the OST, but OK 3 hours "works" even if I see a risk that there is a little frustration as people may feel they were just getting going and then "it was over". Often I´ve used Worldcafé as an alternative when the time is so short.
I think it's important that participants are aware that what they get is a taster (smakprov) of what OST can offer for working groups...I usually mention that anyway - since it's a big difference to a 2,5 days OST or even a one day conference. I would schedule 45 mts for opening incl setting agenda, 60 mts for first session (if opening/agenda setting takes longer the 1st session will automatically be shorter..., 45 mts for 2nd and 30 mts for closing - which I guess would be a closing for the whole conference - which is nice in the circle. Putting the sponsors on one of your side gives them the chance to speak after the others and they can make "proper closure" to the whole event. I usually invite/give opportunity for actions even if it's a very short OST-meeting - if anyone cares to sign up there name and issue for an action after the day, I often give that opportunity by preparing a flipchart: 1. Issue I want to take further, 2. Name 3. Who wants to join. -------------------------------- ------- ---------------- Feel free to give me a call if you'd like to chat some more in your preparations. I do know some experienced colleagues nearby you, in Uppsala! Best regards & Good luck!! Hi All! I'm going to facilite a 3 hours discussion session as the last part of a 1-day conference here in Sweden. I wanted to make it a 1-day OS meeting, but now there will be keynote speakers before lunch (10-13), and discussions after lunch (14-17). Is it worth trying a 3 hours OS, or should I try something else? I'm thinking of a pretty tight schedule with a 1-hour opening session, 2 x 45 min breakouts and 20 min to finish. No printed proceedings, just photocopies of breakout notes. Some feedback is very much appreciated!
