Bhav - so the perceived 'key technician' didn't show up...I wonder what would have happened?

Would Boeing have ended up building a door with different hinges, in different colours, with left-handed handles?

and would another even more marvellous 'key technician' emerge from the woodwork?

and would the mob have found another way of including the 'key technician' after the OS meeting? (or even from his/her holiday location?)

and maybe the sky would have fallen in....and the Boeing with it????

Whatever happened was the only thing that did!

When I try to hypothesise what 'might have happened' - it gets rather convoluted. We usually only see who the real 'key players' are/were after the event - and where their energy/responsibility emerges and grows into something new...

And anyway, even if mandated to be there by the Boss, everyone can use the Law and 'go on hoiliday' whenever they like

Cheers
Brendan

Dear Harrison and friends,

My Boss raised an interesting question and I would love to hear your experience on this issue.

He cited the Boeing doors example and then challenged the idea of INVITATION. He said in a business organisation, some key people just have to be there, they can't have a choice about coming.

So I explained to him that in the Pre-OST stage, there is a lot of work done with the Sponsor group looking at questions like that, however ultimately people must individually choose to be there or not.

So then he said well what if in the Boeing example, one of the key technicians, essential for the whole process, decided not to turn up because he had booked a holiday and just didn't want to miss it.

This does raise an interesting question about whether people can really be free to choose.

PLEASE PLEASE share your experiences with me because having facilitated a number of OSTs, I am convinced about how it works, and the also the deeper aspects that emerge from it.

Thanks Bhav...

Even if you adopt a Doris Day approach (Que Serra, Serra, whatever will be, will be, the future's not ours to see, que serra, serra, am I giving my age away knowing this song lol) your choice to let things happen is an intervention and so you have influenced the process making what happens the only thing that could have. I am unsure if you can have anti laws with regard to the = principles.

First of all the process is based on "SELF" (the most important concept here)-organisation which involved participation or non-participation = which involves human choice. Even if you adopt a Doris Day approach (Que = Serra, Serra, whatever will be, will be, the future's not ours to see, que = serra, serra, am I giving my age away knowing this song lol) your choice to let = things happen is an intervention and so you have influenced the process making = what happens the only thing that could have.

If you do not turn up then you have had an influence of non-influence on = the process and outcome so you have been involved and have been part of the = right people.

What ever happens is the only thing as if you are "involved" your involvement changes the dynamic and outcome, likewise if you are "involved" via no-involvement you affect the dynamic in a = different way and as I stated above what then happens is the only thing that could = have.

Likewise when it starts is because someone made a choice to start it and you are "involved" or "not" which still has impact and = similarly it's over because there is a choice made that it is over via group = consensus or an individual's choice that for them it is = over.

Everything is in some way linked and interdependent and what we choose to do or not = do, ripples out to affect all around us.

Having recently read Phil Zimbardo=92s time paradox I couldn=92t but help to see how all 4 =93principles=94 seem to relate to time.

One of Zimbardo=92s interesting writings is around how we (often without knowing it) carry around with us a time perspective. The time perspectives he talks about are: Future (The well known westerner approach to planning and all things about the future)=20
Present Hedonistic (Make the most of now)=20
Present Fatalistic (It=92s going to happen anyway)=20
Past Positive (Gratitude)=20
Past Negative (Woe to me)=20

Which time perspective would you choose to help you be most =93healthy=94 ?

Zimbardo=92s answer is we (especially in the west) need to be Highly Past Positive.

You can even do your own assessment of what time zone you=92re living in here:

Subject: Re: Anti Laws of OST

Hi Andrew

I am unsure if you can have anti laws with regard to the principles.

First of all the process is based on "SELF" (the most important concept here)-organisation which involved participation or non-participation which involves human choice.

If you do not turn up then you have had an influence of non-influence on the process and outcome so you have been involved and have been part of the right people.

What ever happen= s is the only thing as if you are "involved" your involvement changes the dynamic and outcome, likewise if you are "involved" via no-involvement you affect the dynamic in a different way and as I stated above what then happens is the only thing that could have.

Likewise when it starts is because someone made a choice to start it and you are "involved" or "not" which still has impact and similarly it's over because there is a choice made that it is over via group consensus or an individual's choice that for them it is over.

Everything is in some way linked and interdependent and what we choose to do or not do, ripples out to affect all around us.

We just need to always endeavour to impact in a positive way.

Anyhoo, hope thi= s adds to the confusion.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------= ------------------------------------------- And on another thread, where are the most unusual places that folks know OST has happened?

I recently had the pleasure of opening space for a great group of young people (that's anyone younger than me) from about 9 different parts of Europe who had come together In Londonderry to be involved in an Up-cycling project of Trash to Treasure which also involved a 1 day OS.

One participant selected the swimming pool as an additional breakout space and it was one of the best attended sessions with the details of the conversation recorded at the side of the pool by anyone out of the water.

Maybe the fifth unspoken principle is;
Where ever it happens is the right place/only place it could have happened

Derrick

Subject: Anti Laws of OST
Dear All,

Recently I=92ve been pondering / wondering about what might be the Anti-laws of OST.

For instance.

=93What isn=92t happening are all the things that should be=94

Or

=93What didn=92t happen are all the things that should have=94

As opposed to=85

=93Whatever happens is the only thing that could have or did=94

What are your thoughts on other =93complimentary=94 anti-laws? J

Warm regards,
Andrew
